Can pet owners become infected via contact with their dog’s fur?

The fur of dogs has been demonstrated to be a source of T. canis eggs for human infection. However, contact with pets harbouring patent T. canis infection is usually not considered to be as high a risk as ingesting soil, pica and sand contamination. This may be because the rate of successful embryonation
in fur is not as high as in soil, but there is still a potential risk for infection from this route and good hand hygiene is always advisable after contact with dogs.
